Founded in 1964 by local business persons, Hilltop National Bank was the first financial institution to serve the growing east end of Casper, Wyoming. Originally opened in a shopping center, the initial staff was fewer than a dozen persons.

In May, 1977 the bank was purchased by the H.A. True, Jr. family of Casper. Well known and respected as business people in Casper and Wyoming, the family has interests in oil production, exploration, pipelines, ranching and trucking.

With the True family’s acquisition, planning immediately began for a new, 90,000 square feet facility which the bank currently occupies, sitting on the hill just above its original location. The building was first occupied December 3, 1979.

In the early 1980’s the holding company of Hilltop National Bank started a new bank charter to establish Mountain Plaza National Bank to serve customers on the west side of town. With a change in state banking laws later in the decade, that charter was merged into Hilltop National Bank. In 1984 trust powers were added. The Trust & Financial Services Department currently manages over $400 million in assets, separate from the commercial bank.

The bank has continued to grow and purchased an existing charter in the town of Glenrock, Wyoming, 20 miles to the east in 1994. In 1996 expansion continued into downtown Casper with the opening of two additional offices. These included a stand-alone drive-up facility and a separate walk-up office a block away to serve the needs of the town’s central business district. In the spring of 2002 Hilltop added another full service office with a facility in the Eastside Safeway Grocery with extended hours to match the shopping patterns of the store’s customers.

Hilltop’s hometown commitment shows with the 21 banking and ATM locations in Casper and Glenrock, the most locations of any financial institution to serve those locales.

Additionally, Hilltop’s thousands of customers have 24 hour access to the bank through its website, HilltopNationalBank.com.

Today, the ownership and management of the bank continues to be Casper and Wyoming managed with the board of directors drawing from successful business persons in the Casper area, along with members of the True family. A full compliment of commercial banking services is offered and bank assets are over $350 million.
